In this sermon, Pastor Caleb Culver dives into the testimony of Timothy and examines what the Bible has to say about spiritual gifts.

Focus Scripture

1 Timothy 4:12-15

“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”

Sermon Highlights:

  • A Spiritual gift is an expression of faith initiated by the spirit that supernaturally strengthens someone else.

  • The process of spiritual gift development:

  • #1: Pressed

    • Luke 6:38 // “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

  • The Holy Spirit comes on us to release what’s in us to those around us.

  • When you’re overlooked by man, you’re not being punished, you’re being prepared. You’re not being denied, you’re being developed.

  • #2: Shaken

    • 2 Timothy 1:6-7 // “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

  • #3: Overflowing

    • Matthew 14:15-20 // “When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.”
